Welcome to Somali National Association of the Deaf, SONAD!

This is the only registered and recognized National Association of the Deaf people in Somalia. It is registered with the Transitional Federal Government of the Somali Republic. Here you can find limited information about SONAD.

But you will find information about our Board, our mission, vision, contacts and objectives. (The rest will follow as our site is under construction.)

Somali National Association of the Deaf (SONAD) was established on 23rd April 2007 by 11 regional associations of the Deaf people in Mogadishu, Somalia, after assessing the sad conditions of the Deaf in Somalia.

We are concerned of the discrimination, ignorance and lack of special education, unemployment, disrespect and other social problems facing the Deaf in Somalia.

The SONAD is a non-profit organization and is solely composed and run by a Deaf Board who are elected at the General Assembly.

Our Vision: A Somali Deaf Community empowered through education and respected for their contribution to the cultural enrichment of Somalia through Somali Sign Language and Deaf Culture.

Our Mission:  To ensure that the Deaf people of Somalia have their rightful share of all the benefits of the Somali nation that the general population has without any exception whatsoever.

Motto: "You Say and Hear it, we Sign and See it! " .
