OVERVIEW
Imagine being feeling despaired
and isolated with in your family and community. Imagine not being
able to talk to your mother, father, brother, sister or your friend.
Imagine feeling looked down everyday by your people due to ignorance
and not being able to understand your condition. Hearing is a specail
gift that many peopla take for granted. This is what deaf people
go through everyday in Somalia. Despite sharing the common problems
and difficulties such as wars, famine and hunger in the east African
country of Somalia; deaf people face extra problems everyday. People
think that a deaf person is "stupid" or unintelegent.
Deaf people receive continues stereotypes and name calling.
Many people do not realize the importance of hearing and how people's
lives can change when they lose hearing. Hearing is something that
people take for granted. Some members of SODU include people who
used to hear but have lost hearing for different causes, while others
were born with hearing loss.
